Trellis Helps Liberian Family Live the American Dream

From financial literacy classes to mortgage loan funding, Trellis worked alongside our client for every step in the homebuying journey.

Victoria moved to the United States from West African nation of Liberia. She currently works for St. Joseph’s Hospital and Veterans Hospital in the Sanitation/Housekeeping department. Victoria was in for quite a shock when she learned how complex the process of buying a home in this country can be.

Trellis Home Advisors Offer Expert Guidance

Victoria’s real estate agent suggested that she contact Trellis, a non-profit organization that has been making stable homes possible since 1975. We provide home ownership counseling, financial access and neighborhood development. Regardless of income, education or background, Trellis helps individuals and families across Arizona. Trellis works with local government, business and community leaders to help people realize their dreams of homeownership. Now it was our turn to help Victoria.

Knowledge is Power

After an initial one-on-one counseling session, Victoria attended Trellis’ Financial Literacy class. Victoria said that she learned a lot about how to manage her money and finances. She also learned the important steps necessary to prepare to buy a home. Once she had everything in order, it was time to get a mortgage loan to buy the home she and her real estate agent had found.

Customizing a Loan Package

Victoria was next introduced to Daniel Gonzalez of Trellis Lending. Victoria cannot say enough great things about Daniel. She enthusiastically states how wonderful it was to work with him. “Daniel is a good guy! Really helpful and professional.” Daniel was able to get Victoria into her house for less than she was paying each month for rent!

Happy in Their New Home

Victoria is so happy to be in her new home with her family.  Her children at home have more space and the home is more conveniently located to her kids’ schools, her work, and shopping. Victoria smiles when she says, “It’s good to be here.” She talks about how there is now a lot of room for her grandkids from her two grown children to visit. The pride she has in being a homeowner is undeniable.
