43 affordable rental townhome community will transition to homeownership in fifteen years.
The Grand Opening of Trellis @ Mission February 15th, celebrated the addition of 43 affordable homes to the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County. Trellis @ Mission is a low-income rental property that will convert to homeownership after 15 years. Trellis will support the residents that live at Trellis @ Mission throughout the rental period with programmatic support from Trellis’ homeownership and financial advisors to guide them on the journey to homeownership.
Trellis @ Mission is Trellis’ first low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) development. We are grateful to our funders and partners as this project would not have been possible without the financial support from National, State and Local partners: Arizona Department of Housing, Arizona Community Foundation, the City of Phoenix, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, Home Matters to Arizona, LISC, National Equity Fund, Raza Development Fund and USBank. The beautiful homes were designed by SPS+ Architects and built with the upmost of care and attention to detail by H&B Builders.
Thank you to our speakers who came to support the opening of these homes and their dedicated work towards helping create more affordable home opportunities.

Local community leaders, business owners and residents
watched what used to be a vacant and blighted lot for years before Trellis
acquired the property in 2018. Trellis
worked with local community members and broke ground December 3, 2021, after
two years of preparing, applying and being awarded the LIHTC funding. This development is unique in that the rental
homes will not be converted to market rate housing but will be sold after 15
years to applicants that qualify based on income limitations.
About Trellis:
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since
establishing our roots in 1975, Trellis has made stable homes possible in our
community by providing home ownership counseling, financial access, and
neighborhood development. We are excited to add Trellis at Mission to our list
of over 10 completed projects for low-income households. We are excited to add
43 more families to our growing roster of supported, financially educated, and
wealth generating households.
Trellis recognizes the correlation between housing and
family stability, healthy neighborhoods, and community revitalization. Our
developments and projects have ranged from neighborhood revitalization efforts
and minor repair programs to city-wide acquisitions and rehabilitation. We also
help with lease-purchase, down payment assistance, Employer Assisted Housing, the
acquisition and rehab of government-owned properties and affordable rental
apartments. As the only non-profit mortgage banker in Arizona, we are committed
to helping hardworking families. Our mortgage programs and lending products
include no- and low downpayment options, do not require mortgage insurance,
allow for alternative forms of credit, and are often offered in portfolio.
